#16

I stood there, froze, like a statue.

Chapter 8: Her Fight

When he arrived to Morgan’s house, he saw Leon and immediately, his blood begun to boil. There was something wrong with this Leon, he felt as though he has seen Leon somewhere before, somewhere off in his past.

That is ridiculous; he has never seen Leon until Morgan started interacting with him, has he? He began to have doubts with himself.

He sighed and climbed up onto the room and wait for Morgan.
He was actually dead tired and he would like to go home and have a good night sleep after all, his shift has ended. Then again, he never really has shifts when it comes to her, most of the time it was him that look after her. If possible, 24 hours non-stop too and that includes her sleeping. But a promise he made, a promise he intend to keep no matter how tired he was.

He heard a door open and he knew it was her.

A note was placed just next to him with a pencil.

How whatever was happen went?

It went perfectly fine. How was your day?

It was wonderful.

He felt a pang of jealousy.

With him?

Obviously she knew perfectly who ‘him’ was without him elaborating or even write down his name.

We went to the beach.

Sounds nice.

His eyes could barely open, his fingers has lost its strength and he could feel his eyes lids slowly begun to droop. He shook his head and just left. He jumped down the roof and onto his motorbike, as fast as he could race home. He felt groggy, not tired; drugged not sleepy.

Dammit!

He left, just like that. I was so sure he has a logical explanation to do that. I washed up and went to bed. My head was filled with the golden beach and how firm Leon’s shoulder felt like. Before I closed my eyes, my phone rang.

Thanks for the wonderful day, Morgan. Maybe we should do that more often, right?

I smiled when I read Leon’s message.

Of course we’ll do it more often. But thanks to you, I caught the cold. ):

Ha-ha, don’t fret, I have it too.

Maybe we should infect the entire student body with our flu.

And we shall name it, MORGEON!

Morgeon!?

Yeah, Morgan and Leon, Morgeon!

Leon, I think the heat has gotten into you (:

Oh no, that’s where you’re wrong. YOU’VE gotten into me.

I smiled and kicked the air with excitement.

You’re too tired until you’re being delusional.

I don’t think so. I think it’s because I’ve spent a day with the most wonderful girl I’ve met a few days ago has made me into this!

What!? I think we should go to sleep just to stop you from being crazy.

Ah, yes. Sleeping is always the solution right?

I heard a thump just outside my roof. I placed my phone on my bed and went towards the window, thinking it was him, I opened the window. A screamed was caught in my throat, causing me to started wheezing. The eyes. These pair of eyes does not belong to any human. In fact, it looks like it belongs to an animal. But how can an animal as huge as a human able to climb up my roof? I took a step back, afraid of whatever it was that stood right in front of me. The moon came out from the dark cloud, bathing everything in its path with silver a streak of silver light.

A sinister smile came into view, globs and globs of saliva dripped onto the roof. The thing placed it’s right fore hand and took a step towards me. My eyes have never once left it’s, causing me to tremble with fear.

What happened next was something out of this world, something unbelievable, something magical yet terrifying at the same time and it was happening to me.

Michaela snickered as she readied her bow.

To avoid an Enormph, you must avoid looking in its eye.

Well, obviously Little Morgy does not know that.

Michaela took out a silver bow from her bag.

An Enormph, a half human, half beats and half fairy like creature. They come in different shapes and sizes, depending on their diet. They’ll look more human if they have been in contact with human in a long period of time yet they will eventually slowly shape shifted back to their original form if they lost contact with human though. Only people like Michaela are able to identify them. Honestly, an Enormph is a harmless creature, unless you trained it and feed it raw meat every single day.

Killing an Enormph is no simple work. Shooting it at the limbs is a waste of ammos; shooting it at vital parts like the stomach, the livers and so on are too, a waste of ammos; shooting at the head may buy you time, 10 seconds at most. But shooting at the neck or even hurting an Enormph’s neck is where you are able to bring back the spoil from the war.

Tough part is that the neck has two eyes; one back, one front. The back eye is to enable the Enormph to see it’s surrounding from the back, so it won’t be caught by surprised. Which then mean a sneak attack is pointless. Where else, the front eye is the main eye. The eyes on its face are its major weapons, one look at its magnificent eyes, you’ll be rooted on the stop until it slowly comes over and tear you into pieces with it’s needle like teeth unless it’s concentration on you have been broken.

Michaela placed her crossbow in position as she lay on her stomach.

Ready.

Aim.

I stood there, froze, like a statue. The thing in front of me is bald with a few wisps of white hair on its scalp. Its claws were clicking noisily as it took a few steps forward.
I studied its face; a mouth filled with sharp teeth; two slits for nose and a pair of marvelous pair eyes, the only thing that made me feel awed by it. Golden color was replaced by purple, I couldn’t move even if I wanted too. My limbs hung by my side like a pair of useless arms and my legs felt like lead.

I managed to take a small step backward, it was hard work and my forehead was filled with sweat for that effort. My eyes have never left the rainbow eyes, yet at the corner of my eyes, I saw my bedroom door was opened ajar.

My heart was pounding really fast, really hard.

The door, it was my only chance of escaping from this weird creature. The creature then stood up. I gasped when I saw a pair of folded arms beneath the main one.

The thing has four arms! What was that waving at the back, a tail? No it can’t be.

At the end of the ‘tail’, it spread out in five directions. I could feel sour bile building up behind my throat. It wasn’t a ‘tail’ after all, it was a hand.

Purple colored was replaced by blue.

Somewhere a cat let out a high pitched sound, causing the thing to look at that direction. It’s a signal, a signal for me to run.

I ran.

Wings were spread on its back.

Claws out stretched.

I tripped.

A shrieking sound filled the still night air.

It wasn’t a cat for the sound was close.

Warm blood was upon me, mostly my face.

I felt pain everywhere.

Aiming.

Aiming.

Shit! Why the hell did the Enormph moved in the window?

Michaela preferred fighting from far range and not a close combat. She does not have the strength or the stamina for one, or so she thought. Michaela cursed as she took out her gun, jumped of the building off from the roof where she was hiding. She somersaulted down onto a roof below her, just a few doors away from Morgan’s room. She hoped she could get there in time. She will not face the failure of herself in this mission; after all, she needs to gain their trusts and because of that, she needs to do it the hard way.

My eyes were closed shut when I tripped.

The scream did not come from me, it came from the thing. So is the blood yet the pain was on my right foot. Apparently, the thing grabbed hold onto my foot and squeezed due to the pain it felt. When I opened my eyes, I saw a woman standing outside of my window, on my roof, her gun gave off a smoky smell. The thing changed direction and faced the woman, one of its wings has a hole torn through and the back of its head was bleeding. Its wings were beautifully shaped, like a dragonfly’s yet with colors so magnificent, it looks like someone has used water paint colors and randomly painted its wings.

The thing hissed and I saw a golden eye focused on me. I got up and I grabbed the nearest object I could reach out too. I held it up as a weapon. Apparently what I was holding onto was a comb, a metal comb to be exact.

I missed!? How could I miss!?

Not after training every single day for four hours if she wasn’t being Morgy’s guard. She aimed at its neck and begun shooting, trying to avoid hitting Morgan. In the end, she was either one of the worst shooter on Earth or the Enormph was too quick for her. The Enormph had used its wings to divert the bullets and catching them with its lower part of the limbs.

The Enormph smiled, as to mock Michaela at how bad she is and there isn’t any way for her to defeat him. But Michaela will not give up; she needs to gain their trusts, very badly.
Michaela reached for her back pocket and produced a wicked looking army knife. She lashed out her hand, hoping to slice the Enormph’s throat open, leaving him drowning in his own blood.

Unfortunately, Michaela was, again, too slow for the Enormph. The Enormph has cut off her lash and he held her on her right arm. Just then, Michaela realized she needs more close combats practice after her encounter with the Enormph, if she still lives, that is.

“You… lose…” the Enormph said and started to stand up straight, leaving Michaela hanging on her right arm. The Enormph disarmed Michaela and gave out a bubbly snicker as he saw tears slowly flow down Michaela’s eyes.

The Enormph is right, she lost, and she is not only going to lose her life but to lose their trusts towards her.

When the Enormph open his mouth, she saw bits of fur and meat stuck between his teeth. His foul breath hit Michaela like a gust of wind when the Enormph laughed, his breath smelt like the mixture of raw meat and fur. Michaela couldn’t help but wonder if her body would be part of the bits that are stuck between his teeth; she shuddered as the thought entered her mind. She wiped her eyes and started to wonder why Morgan didn’t switch on the light.

It is because Morgan is afraid and rather watches her being devoured and come after Morgan later? Or Morgan has fainted or something.

Flash back started to come into Michaela’s mind’s eye. She saw herself being taken in by no one other than Kendrick himself. That was when she was able to meet him, a boy with one of the purest look she ahs ever seen. The trained together and sometimes, she wondered where did he disappeared too most of the time. She then found out of Morgan and she hated Morgan ever since.

She hated Morgan more at this moment.
Stupid Morgan who can’t even do a simple task, a simple ordered that was given by Michaela herself that may save both their life.

The Enormph pulled Michaela towards his mouth and began to sink his teeth in her neck.

A bright light burst open and Michaela blink, allowing her eyes to focus.
She saw the Enormph screamed and he let go of her.
She grabbed her army knife.

It’s now or never.

She got up, lashed out her hand, hoping to slice the Enormph’s throat open and let him drown in his own blood. Unfortunately, the Enormph caught her hand, again.

“My eyes may be temporary blind girl, but I still can sense you,”

He let out a loud wail as a hard object hit him at the back of the head. Michaela did a jump kick and her leg caught on the Enormph’s hand and she twisted his hand, causing him to fall. With a heavy thud, the Enormph fell, letting out a loud whoosh sound.

Michaela jumped on the Enormph’s back and she quickly took out her just-in-case knife and when she saw the golden eye on its neck opened, she quickly stabbed the Enormph with all her might before it was too late.

Blue colored blood started to flow on Morgan’s pale pink carpet. Michaela took out the same device he has and placed it on the Enormph. Michaela wiped her forehead and she picked up the device as soon as it was done with its thing.

“Who… who are you?” a voice whispered.

I stared at the woman in black in front of me. I felt safe yet in danger at the same time. The way she stood was like she was some kind of huntress, wild with beauty too. Her red hair that was tied up in a pony tail hung softy upon her shoulder. She placed both her knives back to where they belong.

“Someone you should be afraid of,” she said as she climbed out of the window.
“But, you saved me,” I forced myself to step forward, my hand outstretched, wanting to shake her hand for saving my life.
She stared at my hand in what I saw was in disgust.
“Don’t come any closer or I’ll change my mind about ‘saving’ you,”

She climbed out of the window and walked towards her gun.

“Tell me, who are you?” I whispered.
“Someone you should be afraid of from now onwards,”
“What is that thing?”

She sighed and sat on the roof as she fiddled with her pony tail.

“That was an Enormph,”
“How’d you know about it?”
“Look, Morgan!” she stood up, facing me.
“Stop asking me ridicules questions. I know what are you thinking right now, why isn’t he here? Where is he? Oh yes Morgan, I know about him. In fact…”

She stopped halfway and silently cursed. When I blinked my eyes, she was gone. Just like that; as though she has evaporated herself in thin air. I heard my door squeaked and I saw my dad standing by the doorway.

“Honey, what are you doing up so late?”

I sighed and went to my bed, thoughts running wildly in my mind like untamed horses.

“Nothing, just going to bed.”

“I thought I heard voices,”

“I was talking on the phone,” my eyes were fixed on the liquid which were drying up rapidly.

“Well, it’s late and I think you should go to bed,”

“I was until you came in, dad.”

“Alright, tomorrow’s a school day isn’t it?”

“Yes, dad,”

“Well, I’m going to bed. See you tomorrow?”

I hoped so.

“Yeah, goodnight.”

My dad turned off the light and left the room.

He heard voices.

“Dispose of this body,”
“But, sir!”

He managed to open his eyes but his vision was still blurred. He could make out a few men and he saw one particular one that has sandy blond hair and a pair of wasabi green eyes. He figured out he was lying on the cold floor when he silently tried to move. His hands and legs were bound up, no surprise there. He then took out a pocket knife from his back pocket and silently cut the ropes, unaware that someone was watching him.

Something hard hit his head and he fell into darkness once again.
